Kent Göransson has been announced as new assistant coach for the Swiss Women’s national team completing the coaching lineup for the team.
Kent Göransson was head coach of the Swedish men’s national team for four years, winning a silver medal at each of the two World Championships in 2008 and 2010. From 2013 to 2014, he was national coach of the Norwegian national team. In addition to international activities, he has been mainly active in the highest Swedish men’s league since 2003. At that time he started as coach of Warberg IC and won the Swedish championship title in 2005. From 2011-2016 he was involved with FC Helsingborg, first as coach, then as team manager. In 2017, he returned to Warberg and took over the men’s team for three years, with whom he achieved promotion from the second highest league to the SSL. In 2020, he made the switch to Warberg’s women’s team, where he served as assistant coach.
The 56-year-old has already experienced a lot in international floorball. Why is he now moving to the Swiss women’s team? “I always want to educate myself, learn about new cultures, but also about the player and the person behind it, to get better in all situations,” Göransson said. “I believe that I can contribute with my experience so that Swiss floorball can take the next step to reach the highest international level. And I’m also looking forward to working with Oscar and Kari to form a strong staff together.”
Kent Göransson will assist head coach Oscar Lundin together with assistant Kari Koskelainen for the next two years effective immediately. “We are very happy that we can count on so much experience in the women’s coaching staff and are convinced that the right people are on the sidelines to build on the successes and develop the team further,” says Remo Manser, responsible for national teams at swiss unihockey. The coaching staff is completed by goalie coach Gianni Ruschetti and athletic trainer Philipp Purkert.
