Floorball Spain organised a floorball coaching seminar for Special Olympics Spainon Saturday, 19th of September in Barcelona.

The cooperation between Floorball Spain and Special Olympics Spain begun a few seasons ago, but it has not been until now when this type of courses have started. As part of the growth of Floorball within their official sports and its presence in the next World Winter Games in Kazan 2022, Special Olympics Spain is introducing floorball into more programmes/countries.

This first seminar was held in Barcelona City, with the maximum permitted assistance given by the COVID-19 protocol situation.

Floorball Spain sent four persons for this seminar: Carlos Lopez, Fernando García, Magnus Olson and Ivan Martinez who covered all the basic necessary skills and knowledge to start in their schools and clubs with floorball.

With a theoretical introductory session; floorball as a sport was introduced and in a practical and attractive way we went through the most of the topics, showing how floorball can be played and implemented in their activities.

– Ten coaches from Barcelona area received a complete session and they showed a great interest even that floorball was totally new for them. They got the theory and also had time for a practical session where they personally felt how easy is to start with it. All of them perceived that it is going to be easy to get the athletes involved and playing from the first minute, says Carlos Lopez, IFF CB member and Spanish Floorball Association Secretary General.

As part of the weekend agenda, Special Olympics Spain General Director Enric Blesa and Alvaro Terreros (Sport Coordinator) kept a working meal with Floorball Spain Staff where they analysed the possible future actions and how to proceed in this new cooperation. For next month is scheduled a new seminar for Madrid area.

Both organisations ended the day with a very positive feedback and willing to continue this common path. Wishing that the actual COVID-19 situation will not influence too much for the coming common activities.
