The first day of The World Games for floorball hold skilful goals, amazing saves and great atmosphere at WKK Sport Center. Finland secured their spot in the Semi-Finals as the Group A winner.
In the first match of the day the reigning World Champions Finland played against Czech Republic. The match was intensive and entertaining. The even match ended in a Finnish 4-2 victory. You can read the full match report here. After the match, especially Czech players, were signing autographs for the young fans who have travelled to Wroclaw to watch them play.
In the second match of the day Switzerland played against the only non-European team USA. The teams have never met before so floorball history was made. Team Switzerland showed that they are ready for their other opponents in The World Games Floorball tournament. The Swiss gave no mercy to Team USA and took a clear victory with 17-0. Before the third and the last match of the day, the opening ceremony was held. The Wroclaw Organising Committee (WOC) President Mr. Marcin Przychodny opened up the tournament by welcoming all teams to The World Games and wished them the best of luck for the tournament. His speech was followed by the IFF President Mr. Tomas Eriksson who stressed that this is a great possibility for floorball and we should all use the opportunity the best way possible.
In the last match, the home team Poland played against Finland in almost a full arena. Poland were aggressive and had a good fighting spirit from the beginning and made it hard for Finland to score. In the third period, Poland weren’t as energetic as before and Finland started to find the net more efficiently. The loud home crowd had to go home with a small disappointment as Finland won the match 5-0 and made their way to the Semi-Finals as Group A winners. Read the full match report here.
