Jarno Ihme was one of the players who brought Finland gold in Riga in December. He blocked the penalty shot by Johan Samuelsson and thus began the Finnish celebration. Now he is putting his goalie helmet on the shelf.
Finnish national team goalie, and reigning world champion, Jarno Ihme has decided to retire from floorball:
– The past season all my dreams came true: I won the world championship and played in the Swedish top league SSL. It has been an amazing year and I feel pride when I look back to all the memories. Now it’s time to finish my career while I’m on top, says Ihme.
The 32-year-old Ihme’s firstborn will be born in the next few days:
– I’ve gained so much from playing, that it doesn’t feel bad to leave it to others. It’s time for other things.
Ihme’s first national league team was the Finnish OLS in 2003. He gained more publicity with the Finnish league team SPV, where he transferred in 2006 and played his last season with the Swedish top league team Sirius IBK.
During his floorball career, he has won the Men’s as well as the Men’s U19 WFC title and three national league championships in Finland.
