The First Floorball event in open air on the snow took place last weekend in Valmiera, Latvia.

The participants in this event were girls and boys at preschool age. About 15 teams and 210 kids from 10 kindergartens participated in the Valmiera floorball snow tournament.

The original idea of a snow tournament in Latvia belonged to Jolanta Dukure, a former Latvian race walker, who had participated in summer Olympic Games in Sydney (2000) as well as Peking (2008). Jolanta is a 28-time Latvian champion in different race walking disciplines.

The snow Floorball tournament was supported by Latvian Floorball Union as a part of the Floorball promotion program to interest in these kids to join Floorball family and some of the Floorball clubs.

The next pupils to play in the snow tournaments are Daugavpils secondary school children, who will play the tournament this weekend.

The Latvian Floorball Union has scheduled similar Floorball promotion tournaments for kids in spring as well as in autumn.
