In the past two months the group Athletes in Action – Philippines, started forming their own floorball organisation by developing a group of coaches who will help to propagate the sport in the Philippines. The IFF has supported this project by providing floorball equipment.
These initial group of coaches came from different sports (football, fencing, judo, basketball, badminton, track and field among others) themselves from different universities and colleges in the Philippine capital of Manila.
They’ve also followed-up on the previous floorball camp for grade school kids last summer in the Philippines. The University of the Philippines and the University of Makati are one of the first places where they started the promotion of the sport.
There are training sessions organised every Monday morning from 6 – 9 o’clock in the University of the Philippines and Thursdays from 9 to 12 noon at the University of Makati. There have been some adjustments made when training athletes from other sports transitioning to floorball unlike those who have played football futsal, where the big difference is the use of stick, otherwise there are a lot of similarities between the sports.
In the University of the Philippines most persons involved in floorball are Human Kinetics students playing other sports before being introduced to Floorball.
In the University of Makati a basketball International Referee who is also teaching physical education invited to promote floorball and this International Referee is also interested in officiating floorball in the future.
