Both Pixbo and Thorengruppen backed up their billing on paper by comfortably winning Game 1 of their Champions Cup Semi-Finals against Czech opposition. Pixbo defeated Chodov at home whilst Thorengruppen beat Vitkovice in the Czech Republic.

Pixbo Vs Florbal Chodov

Heading into the Semi-Final Pixbo had a big win on Thursday night in the SSL against Warberg (14-6) and their confidence was in full effect throughout the entire contest. Meanwhile the visitors Chodov also had a 14 goal victory in the week with their win on Tuesday coming against Dobruska leaving them top of the Czech Extraliga. The pace was electric from the beginning as both sides got several goals in frantic first period where Pixbo managed to score 7 goals on 13 shots, a ridiculously high number showing just how elite the attacking talent of Pixbo is. Not to be left Chodov scored twice of their own ending the first 20 minutes with 9 goals in total between the two! Emma Stenberg and Mira Markström were the two stand out players on the day for Pixbo, with both having a hat-trick and 4 points in total. There wasn’t much Chodov could do to stem the firepower of the foxes but a bright point at least for young 18 year old forward Klara Jirkova who scored a hat-trick for Chodov, something to smile about at least for the Czech side after a tough day in Sweden.

Heading back to Prague and the Czech Republic, Chodov will hope home atmosphere will be able to turn the tide as they need to win to at least force overtime whilst all Pixbo would need is a draw to return back to the Champions Cup final yet again.

1.SC. Vitkovice Vs Thorengruppen IBK

As many would say the “best team in Women’s floorball” continued their dominating start to this season with yet another win, this time against Czech hosts Vitkovice in Ostrava. In 2024 Thorengruppen have only lost 1 match (In Overtime to Täby in the playoffs this past April). They are an absolute force in Women’s floorball and it showed yet again as they romped to a convincing 12-2 victory as Vitkovice just couldn’t keep up with the sheer talent and depth on Thorengruppen team. It was the Czech hosts who actually took the lead sending the home fans into loud cheers as Nela Sikorova flicked a delightful wrist shot into the top corner to start things off perfectly for Vitkovice. It was however a brief moment of joy as just 35 seconds the equaliser came and then suddenly Thorengruppen drove off into the distance with 11 total unanswered goals, taking full control of the ball and possession during the contest to leave no chance for Vitkovice. In total 11 different players got at least a point for Thorengruppen on the day with deadly forward Maja Viström getting the most with 5 in total and a hattrick included.

Not much time to rest for either side as they face off against each other yet again the day after on Sunday as Thorengruppen elected to give up hosting their 2nd leg to help out both sides with travel costs and fixture congestion. A change in approach and tactics will be needed for Vitkovice as despite many shots they could only get 2 past Lovisa Hedin in the Green and White goal. More of the same is to be expected for the side from Umeå with just 1 win separating them from a third consecutive Champions Cup final.
