This past weekend in Fredericton, Canada, USA and hosts Canada played the Americas region qualifiers for both the Women’s competition at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China and for the 2025 Men’s U19 World Floorball Championships in Zurich. In a best-of-three series for both Qualification events, Canada came out on top with a clean sweep of victories in both. 6 matches and 6 victories for Canada in 2 different series. The Americas region is now leaning the way of the nation from the great white north!

The Americas regional qualifiers for both the 2025 Men’s U19 WFC and for The World Games 2025 (Women’s competition) took place in Fredericton in the Canadian province of New Brunswick last weekend, August 2-4. The winner of both best-of-three series were the hosts who were thoroughly convincing in both series.

Canada Women super strong at home

Starting off with the Women’s competition where USA had previous head to head matches on their side after winning last year in WFCQ qualifications to make it to Singapore for the 2023 WFC. However they came to these TWG Qualifications with a smaller than normal squad and only 1 goalkeeper who had previously only started 1 match for the USA Women’s national team. With a pre event injury the squad size went to 11 before the first game even begun. The lack of depth in playing numbers did catch up with USA as it was Canada who were dominant in all 3 games scoring over 8 goals in every game. Huge victories by 12-2, 13-2 and 8-0 followed over the 3 days as the Canadians took control and booked their ticket to follow the Men’s side in qualifying for The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China.

Canada Men’s U19 get revenge on rivals USA

The Men’s U19 side followed the lead of the Women’s side and showed their strength by beating USA in all 3 matches to qualify for the U19 WFC 2025 in Zurich, Switzerland next April. Canada took an early 4:0 lead in the first game and shocked the US team who perhaps underestimated the firepower the Canadians brought to the table. Although the USA briefly closed the gap to 2:4, Canada had the game under control and won the game by a clear 13:6. In the second game on Saturday, the first period was initially even. However, Canada turned up the heat again in the middle third and pulled away to 7:4. In the final period, the USA played with six field players and was able to score two goals, but the gap was too big, and Canada won the game 11:7. With these two victories, Canada’s U19 team qualified for the 2025 U19 World Championships in Zurich. The third game on Sunday would no longer have been necessary for qualification but was used by the teams as a test match. Canada also won this game by a clear 15:10.

It was a brilliant weekend in Fredericton for Canada Floorball with a perfect record and 2 team qualified for their respective events. Canada Women’s national team join the already qualified 5 Women’s teams from the 2023 WFC in Singapore (Sweden, Finland, Czechia, Switzerland & Slovakia) for The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China next year with the Men’s U19 team qualifying for the U19 WFC 2025 in Switzerland. They join the already automatically qualified 9 nations from the previous U19 WFC in Denmark last year (Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Czechia, Latvia, Slovakia, Norway, Denmark & Germany).

Congratulations to Canada who take another step towards claiming Americas region supremacy!
