Two teams from Africa, Côte d’Ivoire and Burkindi (Burkina Faso) took part in the inaugural 3v3 World Floorball Championships 2024 (3v3 WFC) in Lahti during the 11th and 12th of May. The event proved to be an international floorball fest with teams from four continents.
The IFF and the their official sponsor UNIHOC handed the African teams development material to take back home. The two teams received six stick bags full of floorball equipment which are to be shared between: Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin and Ghana. In addition, the IFF also donated three cardboard boxes with t-shirts, shorts, tracksuit tops and floorball balls.
— Great to see African countries at the 3v3 WFC. This game format is an important step for development especially in developing countries as it requires less players and material. This also becomes a crucial factor when travelling to tournaments like the African Cup (when the team needs to fit into one van). It is much easier to get the UNIHOC material to the countries without the need to dispatch them via post or courier. I hope the receiving countries have much fun with the material and also send us pictures, says Mr Veli Halonen, IFF Operations Manager, also responsible for development.
