Last weekend the IFL 3 Nations had their Final 4 organized in Vienna. The league itself consists of 9 teams, with the top three teams from Austrian, Hungarian, and Slovenian national championships. This was the fifth edition of the competition under such a system. The team Insport from Škofja Loka has won all previous championship titles. The teams that qualified for the final tournament were: FBK Insport Škofja Loka (SLO), SZPK Komarom (HUN), Phoenix Fireball Budapest (HUN), and Wiener Floorball Verein from Vienna (AUT).

In the first semi-final on Saturday, the teams SZPK Komarom and Phoenix competed in a tense match. The Komarom team secured a victory with a turnaround in the final moments of the game, with a score of 6:5. In the second semi-final, the hosts Wiener Floorball Verein nearly surprised the defending champions Insport, who managed to break the resistance of the hosts in the final third and won with a score of 6:4.

Insport (black) vs SZPK (orange) – FINAL

In the match for third place on Sunday, the Viennese defeated team Phoenix and secured third place. The final match was a rematch of last year’s final, featuring the top two teams from the regular season, Insport and SZPK. Until the 50th minute, the SZPK team managed to keep up with Insport with disciplined defense, not allowing Insport to lead by more than 2 goals. Perhaps the Hungarians ran out of fuel at the end of the game, which the team from Škofja Loka took advantage of, scoring three times in the final part of the game and winning with a score of 10:6. This meant that the Insport team won their fifth consecutive championship title in the International Floorball League and remained undefeated in this competition. Most of the Insport players also formed the core of the Slovenian national team, which qualified for this year’s World Championships.
