Côte d’Ivoire Floorball meets Special Olympics Côte d’Ivoire

In preparation for the Africa Floorball Cup, Special Olympics Côte d’Ivoire met the President of the Ivorian Floorball Federation for discussions on the synergy of working to popularise Floorball in Côte d’Ivoire and the involvement of Special Olympics Côte d’Ivoire in the organisation of the Africa Floorball Cup. President Marcel Wadja and the National Director of Special Olympics Côte d’Ivoire, Mr Eric Monnet, sketched out the foundations for a strong and fruitful collaboration between the Ivorian Floorball Federation and Special Olympics Côte d’Ivoire.

Mr Monnet’s aim is to promote floorball as a means of inclusion through unified sport, and as an Olympic competition discipline at the forthcoming Special Olympics World Winter Games. Côte d’Ivoire shone in this discipline, beating Burkina Faso in the final of the Special Olympics World Games in Austria to win the gold medal. This excellent meeting will lead to concrete actions that the two sports movements will organise very soon, such as the signing of a partnership between the two entities, training sessions, and unified matches in various cities and sub-programmes of Special Olympics Côte d’Ivoire.

Activity report: development in Yamoussoukro

As part of the implementation of the programme of activities included in the Management Committee’s operational plan, the Ivorian Floorball Federation is actively engaged in its policy of promotion, popularisation and animation aimed at encouraging more people to play Floorball.

On Saturday 12th August 2023, a discovery and initiation session was held at the Espace Jean Paul 2 in Yamoussoukro. Over 90 young people attended the event. Among the key figures were Mr Anasse N’Cho Marcellin, Director of Sports for the Autonomous District of Yamoussoukro, Ms Essan Marie Laure, President of the Fédération Ivoirienne de Randonnée Pédestre et du Bien-être pour Tous, Mr Eugène Kouassi, President of the Fédération Ivoirienne de Course d’Orientation, Mr Aboubakari Sidik, President of the Fédération Ivoirienne de Rollball et Discipline Associée, and various officials.

The workshop was led mainly by Dje Innocent and Kouadio Oholiab, who are responsible for development, under the supervision of FIFL President Marcel Wadja. The training programme included an explanation of the rules of floorball, how to handle the sticks and the ball, and the attitudes and behaviour to adopt on the field. This was followed by a game session, all in a friendly and fraternal atmosphere.
