The floorball tournament of the 2023 United World Games is in the books. For the first time ever, all three age categories have been won by teams from Carinthia, Austria.
Short reminder: The event took place in two venues in Villach, Austria from 23rd to 25th June. Over all three competitions (U17, U15 and U13), 29 teams from eight different countries – Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary – took part. The games have been whistled by a total of 15 referees from Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Germany.
Local club and tournament host KAC Floorball had double reason to celebrate. The U13-team played a nearly excellent tournament by taking four wins out of four games and defeated FBK Polanska Banda from Slovenia in a gripping final game after overtime. 3rd place went to UHC Pfannenstiel (Switzerland).
Also the U15-tournament went to the team from Klagenfurt. Just like their younger clubmates they made it look pretty easy and finished their walk through the playoff games in taking the win over Swiss team UHC Pfannenstiel at the final. The bronze medal went to UHC Wehntal Regensdorf – annother participant from Switzerland.
At the U17-tournament there has been an extremely close race for the win between VSV Unihockey (Austria) and Gorily Plzen (Czech Republic). After a draw in group stage, both teams delivered an open head to head fight in the final game – at the end, local club VSV Unihockey took home the tournament win after defeating Gorily Plzen with 2:1. Tsunami Záhorská Bystrica from Slovakia, another one of the favorite teams, had no big problems in winning the game for the 3rd place after missing the qualification for the final game the days before.
Finally, KAC Floorball would like to take this opportunity to once again thank all participating teams and referees as well as the entire organizing committee for a successful event!
As we also can announce, it‘s time to mark your calendars: Next year‘s edition of the United World Games will be held from 20th to 23rd June, 2024. Further information about the registration for next year are about to follow in the next months.
