It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to a true member of the Austrian floorball family. On 15 June 2023, Willy Weiss was escorted to his final resting place at the Vienna Central Cemetery. His sudden passing leaves a painful gap in our sport.
Willy was an important member of the Austrian floorball community for 25 years. With tireless dedication and passionate commitment, he shaped the sport and contributed significantly to its development in Austria. As an official, coach and mentor, he inspired and supported numerous young athletes. His expertise and commitment were second to none. Willy was not only an outstanding organiser, but also a true gentleman. His friendliness, helpfulness and positive charisma coupled with his Viennese charm made him a well-liked and respected member of the whole community. He was always willing to share his experience and knowledge with others and helped shape and nurture young talent.
His commitment to the sport of floorball in Austria was tireless. Willy was committed to promoting youth and organised numerous training camps, tournaments and match days. His goal was always to spread the sport and generate enthusiasm for floorball. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched. The 15th June 2023 was undoubtedly a sad day for the Austrian sport. Floorball lost a valuable person who lived floorball with passion and dedication. Willy’s absence will be painfully felt, but his traces will remain in all memories and in the development of floorball in Austria.
In these difficult hours, we, on behalf of the world wide floorball community, would like to express our sincere condolences to Willy’s family, friends and close colleagues. May they find comfort in the memories they share and know that Willy’s legacy lives on in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
Willy Weiss, you will be sorely missed. You were a true pioneer and a shining example to us all. Your commitment to the sport of floorball will always be unforgotten. Rest in peace, dear Willy.
