Team Czech Republic will renew their participation at The World Games this summer. In 2017 edition, the team finished fourth but the bronze medal from the World Floorball Championships in Helsinki showed that the team will battle for medals also in Birmingham.
Filip Langer made his Men’s World Floorball Championships debut in 2018, at a home WFC in Prague. In May 2019, Czech Republic won the first ever WFC gold medal, when the Men’s U19 team were victorious in Halifax, Canada. Langer was one of the key players of the gold team. He was also the key player at WFC in Helsinki, when Czech Republic took home the bronze: it was Langer who scored the golden goal in overtime. During this season, Langer has played in the Swedish Super League team FBC Kalmarsund, who have advanced to the final. They will face Falun in the battle for the title this Saturday.
But how did Langer fall in love with floorball? It was something to do with friends and the emotions you can experience in sports.
— The thing that made me fall in love with floorball was that I was with friends playing same game, we had the same hobby and we could speak about everything in our lives and also the emotions in every sport are just beautiful and those are the things why I fall in love with floorball.
Quite often, players are suffering from injuries or other challenges during their player career. But something, the obstacles standing in the way are more complex than that.
— At some point I realised that the only obstacle of my floorball career, maybe also not only for floorball but overall is myself and since that I see that nobody else is going to solve my problems, nobody else is here to solve my excuses, so yeah biggest obstacle is myself probably. I overcame this obstacle that I just try to explore myself, try to maybe talk to myself and try to yeah realize what I really like and what I really love and where all the problems inside of me come from.
According to Langer, The World Games offer a good chance to showcase the sport of floorball also to people who are not involved in it. Also the location offers great potential for spreading the sport to an even wider audience.
— The World Games is important for floorball because it’s a big event and also not only people that are involved for in floorball will follow the sport and the fact that it’s happening in the U.S is also good for floorball because yeah there is a big potential in U.S and I hope we can show floorball in the best way we can.
The World Games in Birmingham will be the second edition for Czech Republic but first for Langer.
— Floorball at The World Games will definitely be something to remember because as I said it’s a huge event, it’s not only about floorball, it’s about other sports, other athletes and yeah it’s something we have or I have never experienced before and it’s also happening only once in the four years which makes it even more special.
