On Monday, the news came that Anna Wijk is ending her playing career. Wijk is the Sweden’s best scorer in the women’s national team and in SSL and the all time point scorer in the Women’s World Floorball Championships.

The mark that Anna Wijk has left in Swedish floorball can be seen in several ways. The fact that she has scored 196 points in the national team in 106 matches says a lot. In addition, Wijk has won six World Floorball Championships gold medals, one Swedish Championship gold and been named the world’s best player four times.

— I sat and looked for pictures that I would post and then it really hit me. These are cool things you have been through, there has been incredible things. When you play, you are completely up to it and winning makes you happy.. It is completely different now when you look back on it. You reflect on it in a completely different way. It feels good that I got to experience that, Wijk says about her career and continues:

— I am really happy and grateful for the long career I have had and how I have peformed at a high level for such a long time. To have represented Sweden and won WFC gold medals that we have won. This is something I am happy and very proud of now.

What is the best memory you have with the national team now that you have left?

— The WFC-gold in Switzerland (2019) was cool tournament and as a national team we were so good. That we then won in sudden death and that I was part of that with the assist also makes it incredibly cool.

— Then I must also mention when I as a 17-year-old got to step in as a debutant in the national team and then the WFC in Västerås 2009 as a 18-year-old was absolutely incredible. All WFC golds are special, but the first and the last are still the ones which are stuck a bit more.

In addition to all national team merits, it was also 13 years in SSL for Anna Wijk and 11 of the seasons were with the club she is associated with the most – KAIS Mora.

— I’m so happy of all the players and leaders that I played with and got to know. Many of them are my friends today and will be in the future. It’s not just the sport but many great memories and people that I carry with me.

Over the years, she delivered a mighty 933 points (most of all time in women’s SSL) and she was also named the world’s best player four times.

— I am proud that I have always been a player who wanted to develop and was never satisfied with myself, who always wanted to continue. I have had a fairly high minimum level for a long time and I have always wanted to be a scorer, Wijk sums up.
