Sweden continues its amazing winning streak by beating Finland in the Women’s World Floorball Championships (WFC) final with Emelie Wibron’s overtime goal. This was Sweden’s 8th consecutive WFC gold.
The final was a tight battle giving the spectators at IFU Arena in Uppsala everything they came for. Ellen Backstedt scored Sweden’s opening goal after only one minute and Sweden was leading with 3-1 after the first period. The best player of team Finland was again Veera Kauppi who could keep her team in the game by reducing Sweden’s lead to 3-2 with her second goal. This was the score after two periods.
The third period became a real thriller, when Finland’s Sara Piispa evened the score on power play. But then neither of the teams could utilise their power play opportunities and the game was to be decided on overtime. Emelie Wibron was the played settling the match for Sweden with her golden goal at 62.35, Maja Viström giving the assist.
For Finland the WFC silver was an improvement from the last WFC in 2019 when they finished third.

Switzerland takes bronze
In the bronze match Switzerland played against Czech Republic. Switzerland dominated in the start and was leading with 2-0 after the first period. Czech Republic had their momentum in the start of the second period when they scored two quick goals and evened the score to 2-2. Switzerland was still stronger today and won the match 5-2.
Corin Rüttimann (SUI) who scored two goals in the final is the Women’s all time top goal scorer with a total of 56 goals.
