CANADA

How has Covid-19 affected the team’s preparation for this WFC?

The majority of Canada was in some form of lockdown at times during 2020. There were no organized indoor sports events permitted so team practices and games were all cancelled. Players were only able to work on their individual skills. Goalkeepers suffered the most as they could not work on stopping any shots. As vaccinations increased, small group training was allowed so teammates could work on their passing and shots together. In preparation for this WFC, some players have traveled overseas to train with club teams in Europe.

Describe your team, and what should we expect from your team during WFC 2020?

Canada returns to the Men’s World Championships after defeating Australia for an 11th place finish in 2018 in Prague. The coaching staff from that event returns along with 13 veterans and 7 rookies, many with international experience from the 2019 Men’s u19 World Championship on home soil in Halifax. Expect the team to play a traditional Canadian style of finesse and skill, hard on the ball and lots of heart. The team looks to feed off the energy of their first floorball event in two years and aims to finish first in their group, before making a run in the play-off round resulting in their first top 10 finish.

Players to watch:

Most dangerous attacker:

Valtteri Viitakoski

Combines an accurate shot with the ability to find an open spot in tight spaces. Currently averaging a point per game playing for Nokian KRP in the F-Liiga.

Strongest defender:

Adrien Matthews

At a height of 190 cm with a giant wingspan who does not shy away from the phyiscal game, there is not a lot of room for attackers to move on the court.

Toughest player:

Tyler Brush

Captain Canada returns to lead the team after an extensive rehab program following a stay in the hospital with a broken cheekbone.

Face-off champion:

Tristan Walsh

A combination of a low center of gravity, quick hands and great reaction time.

SINGAPORE

Do not be deceived by his slim stature, known as the ‘dancing king’ as he waltz thru opponents.

Whatever physical challenges given by the opponent, he will always be up to the task.

Face-off champion:

PHILLIPINES

How has Covid-19 affected the team’s preparation for this WFC?

We have not been affected much by Covid-19 as a team, but we were told late to participate and have thus not been able to prepare as well as needed. We have had only two training camps before the WFC.

Describe your team, and what should we expect from your team during WFC 2020?

Some of the players have been involved since 2019 and played various championships in Asia. For the WFC, we have 13 debutants in the national team. We are composed of a fairly young team with high technical ability and a great sense of play. All players play in Sweden, Norway and Finland. The players have roots in the Philippines, either born there or have Filipino parents. One goal is to become the top team, outside of Europe.

Players to watch:

Most dangerous attacker:

Kim Varga

High ball controll, agility and  vision, high speed and acceleration.

Strongest defender:

Lucas Oijvall

Good strength, passing ability, high speed and acceleration and good sense of play.
