Finland and Czech Republic will play in the Men’s U19 World Floorball Championships 2021 final. Sweden and Switzerland will battle for the bronze.
As the group stage ended yesterday, today was the time for play-offs, semi-finals and first placement matches. Slovakia and Poland were victorious in the play-offs and they will play for the 7th place tomorrow while Estonia and Denmark will be playing for the 9th place. Latvia won the fifth place match against Germany 8-1 and Slovenia finished 11th after winning the deciding match against Austria. The match was finally decided by penalty shootout and final score 7-6 for Slovenia. In the match for 13th-15th place, Hungary won 15-4 against Italy and finished the championships with a win. The final placement of team Hungary depends on tomorrow’s match between Belgium and Italy.
The two semi-finals were extremely tight. The semi-final between Sweden and Czech Republic went first into overtime and then continued to penalty shootout. The key players from the Czech team were the goalkeeper Tomáš Jurco and Matěj Havlas, who succeeded in the deciding spot. In the second semi-final, Finland took a one goal lead from the start but Switzerland stayed close until the last minutes. Final score 3-1 for Finland and a ticket to the Men’s U19 WFC final.
