The next IFF Champions Cup will take place the 15th – 16th of January 2022 in the AXA Arena in Winterthur, Switzerland. Four teams have already secured their ticket to the CC 2022: Kloten-Dietlikon Jets (SUI), Floorball Köniz (SUI), Classic (FIN) and Thorengruppen IBK (SWE).
After seven years, the IFF Champions Cup was supposed to have taken place in Switzerland again this January, which, unfortunately, did not happen. The international club tournament had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Winterthur can now look forward to holding the next event. The city will host the four national champions of the leading nations Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, who will be playing for the international club title on the 15th and 16th of January 2022.
Originally, the IFF Champions Cup was planned to be held in Finland in 2022. Because the WFC in Helsinki had to be postponed by a year, the Finnish Floorball Federation would have had to carry out two events in the same month. For this reason, it was decided that Switzerland should organise the IFF Champions Cup in 2022 and Finland would host it in 2023.
Four of the eight participants already determined
The participating teams from Switzerland have already been determined: the Kloten-Dietlikon Jets (women) and Floorball Köniz (men) were crowned as Swiss champions. Until now, only one champion each has been set for Finland and Sweden. In Finland, the men’s team Classic won the Champions Cup, and the decisive match in the Best-of-7-Series is taking place tomorrow between SB-Pro and PSS. The women of Thorengruppen IBK earned the title in Sweden. The men’s final had to be moved to the 2nd of May, because some players in the semi-final series had tested positive for Covid-19. Falun and Storvreta will be playing for the Swedish championship title. In Czech Republic the final will take place in June.
