The year 2021 is when Street Floorball gets started in Switzerland. Now, floorball can not only be played indoors in sports halls, but also outdoors. This summer, the Swiss Floorball Association is also launching the Mobiliar Street Floorball Tour together with Mobiliar Insurances, the main sponsor of the World Floorball Championships 2022.
The idea to introduce Street Floorball in Switzerland began during the preparations for the Men’s Floorball World Championship 2022 in Zurich and Winterthur. This major event will be used to promote a new kind of game form and get the Swiss population enthusiastic about floorball, following the WFC motto: Floorball unlimited.
With the Corona pandemic, the project was further encouraged and promoted, because for well-known reasons, outdoor activities currently have their advantages over indoor ones.
– This time of Corona is making us reflect on many things. But it is also making us rethink and think in new ways. New ways of thinking primarily regarding new and innovative projects. Projects that move our sport forward. One of these projects is street floorball. We want to go outdoors with street floorball – and we want to encourage people to pick up a floorball stick, not only the organised and licensed players, but also everyone else who wants to try something new, says Daniel Bareiss, President of Swiss Floorball Association.
In the long run, this new game form is ideal for the summer semester, when it is hot inside the sports halls or when they are not available. Similar projects are already being considered in countries such as Finland, Sweden or the Czech Republic.
The project will be launched by the Swiss Floorball Association together with schools at the WFC venues of Zurich and Winterthur as well as in the canton of Berne. The Swiss Floorball Association will provide the schools with a playing field and equipment for 3-4 weeks starting in April. Playing floorball will be made even easier: there will be as little material and as few rules as possible. The game form is based on 3 against 3 players, without a goalkeeper.
Mobiliar Supports Tournament Series as the WFC Main Sponsor
Street Floorball is also the perfect way to bring floorball to the people. Together with Mobiliar Insurances, Swiss Floorball Association will be launching the Mobiliar Street Floorball Tour to do this. Prior to the WFC, the Mobiliar Street Floorball Tour will be visiting different Swiss cities and will offer action and fun for anyone who can hold a floorball stick. The kick-off is planned for June 2021 in Winterthur. The tournament series will end with a final tournament just shortly before the World Championships. But plans are to continue the new tournament format afterwards. The tournaments are played with Gerflor Sport Court Power Game+ flooring.
Mobiliar is not only supporting this tour, but is also involved as the main sponsor for the home WFC, which will take place from 5 to 13 November 2022 in Switzerland.
– We are very proud that we can also count on our long-time and valuable partner for the WFC 2022. With the Mobiliar Street Floorball Tour, we will be able to carry out a unique project together and thus make an important contribution to the development of Swiss Floorball, WFC 2022 Manager Daniel Kasser states.
Mobiliar is convinced that the WFC 2022 and floorball will be successful:
– Swiss Floorball will write a great success story with the home WFC 2022 and floorball as a sport will continue to grow throughout Switzerland. As the main sponsor of the WFC 2022, Mobiliar wishes to join Swiss Floorball Association on this journey and provide strong support, says Patric Deflorin, Mobiliar’s Head of Market Management.
