After many years in the Swedish Super League and the national team, Joel Kanebjörk has decided to end his playing career. He now joins the staff of the SSL team Storvreta IBK.
Although Joel Kanebjörk, 32, could have played for more years, he felt that it is time to take the next step in his floorball career. In 2018 he joined the Swiss NLA team UHC Uster, where he played for two seasons. According to Kanebjörk, he has achieved everything he wanted to achieve in floorball and now he gets to see what the sport offers in other forms. The next phase with Storvreta IBK feels natural, since he has represented the team before.
– Storvreta has always meant an incredible amount to me so it obviously feels fantastic to be part of the organisation again. There is a lot of competence in both players and leaders, which of course is an inspiring environment to be in and contribute to. And it is also no secret that the team includes some of my closest friends, which of course gives this additional emotional value, he concludes in Storvreta IBK’s press release.
In Storvreta IBK, Kanebjörk will assist the Head Coach Oscar Lundin and Assistant Coach Mika Kohonen in their work to run the team successfully. In addition, Kanebjörk will put extra focus on the development of specific individuals and parts of the team. The current contract covers the rest of this season but the cooperation will most likely continue in the future as well.
Kanebjörk has also been successful on the international stage. He has represented Sweden in four Men’s World Floorball Championships, winning two gold medals in 2012 and 2014 and two silver medals in 2010 and 2016. He has also played in the U19 World Championships in 2005 and twice in the IFF Champions Cup, winning the CC in 2012 with Storvreta IBK of course.
