The Swiss national team player Margrit Scheidegger, who has played 96 internationals, ends her playing career. Several injuries during recent months led to this decision shortly before the start of the season with the Red Ants Rychenberg Winterthur.
Already after the home World Floorball Championships (WFC) in December and the abrupt end of the season in March, Margrit Scheidegger thought about resigning. She then decided to continue because things constantly improved with the Red Ants club towards the end of the season. In the playoff quarter-finals they fought thrilling duels against Kloten-Dietlikon Jets. But then one injury after another followed and she decided to end her career.
Three times WFC bronze, once WFC silver
In 2009, Margrit Scheidegger won the U19 World Floorball Championships title in Poland. A year later she was invited to the women’s national team for the first time. From 2013 to 2019 she took part in all four Women’s World Floorball Championships and won three bronze medals and one silver at the end of her career.
Scheidegger scored 32 goals for Switzerland in 96 international matches, the last in the WFC final against Sweden in Neuchâtel. This WFC was clearly the highlight of her career, says Scheidegger:
– I only recently watched a video from the WFC and then all the emotions came up again. This experience was simply indescribable, she says in Swiss Floorball Association’s press release.
With her club team Red Ants she was able to celebrate her greatest successes in the years 2010-2012: three times they were cup winners and once Swiss champions. Apart from the 2018/19 season, when she played one year for Piranha Chur, the primary school teacher remained loyal to her club in Winterthur.
