Now it is clear where the Swedish Super League (SSL) will starting from this fall be broadcast live for the next five years. Telia-owned Bonnier News and Swedish media group NTM have jointly acquired the domestic rights to the SSL. All men’s and women’s SSL matches will be shown on SportExpressen Play.
– The collaboration is strong, innovative and long-term with a clear joint intention to develop the overall SSL experience, says SSL’s CEO Jörgen Lindgren, in SSL’s press release.
NTM (Corren, Upsala Nya Tidning and others), Expressen and Bonnier’s local brands (formerly Mittmedia, Hall Media and HD/Sydsvenskan) are investing in live broadcast of sports. On Sunday, the premiere of the new live sports service SportExpressen Play took place, as it showed over 20 matches from the football leagues Ettan and Elitettan.
Now the biggest agreement so far is presented: The top floorball league, the Swedish Super League (Superligan), will be shown on NTM, Expressen and Bonnier’s local brands for the next five seasons (2020-2025) starting in late September. The recently signed agreement is the largest rights agreement that SSL has ever signed. Both men’s and women’s SSL matches will be shown.
– Wow! Getting the honour to broadcast and work with a league that is a world leader in its sport is a dream come true, says Mattias Wallström, Live Sports Manager at Bonnier News, which for example includes Expressen.
SSL has previously broadcast all the matches themselves via SSL Play and some of the matches have been broadcast at Discovery. Now all matches will be broadcast on SportExpressen Play (sportexpressenplay.se). In addition, matches will also be shown on Expressen Premium and on several of Sweden’s strongest local media brands.
– For us, it has been important to find a partner that matches our values such as equality and sustainable development of SSL. Long-term vision and seriousness are required to achieve success. Exactly what we have found with this agreement, SSL chair Krister Kalte explains.
