The 2019 floorball winter camp for Chinese youth players was held at Shanghai University of Science and Technology from 20th of January to 1st of February.
This winter camp had different aims. Firstly, to evaluate and select existing players for the U19 women’s team and U19 men’s team, in preparation for the Women’s U19 World Championships 2020 and the Men’s U19 World Championships 2021.
Another aim was setting up an age level system for floorball. Players from the U14 teams had attended this camp before, while U8 and U10 players from the Shanghai Pinghe School and Shanghai Experimental School took the SP training sessions for the first time. All of these efforts help the future U19 selections and trainings.
The camp was endorsed by the IFF, AOFC (youth development committee), co-organised by LZD Floorball Club and the Shanghai Youth Development Center.
The even organisers had also invited Mr. Tapio Hämeen-Anttila and Mr. Harry Virtanen, the current general manager and the former coach of Finland U19 women’s team and Mr. Christer Olsson, the former coach of Swedish national team, to participate in the training, evaluation and selection of the U19 preparation team.
There were also fifteen Special Olympics athletes invited to attend the Camp at the same training with other players. Unified trainings and social activities were organised for them jointly with partner athletes. All Special Olympics athletes demonstrated their talents, and their performance was very impressive.
The coaches provided training and guidance for all participants from basic skills to technical and tactical training. The knowledge level of the participants improved significantly. Besides enriching the content for Chinese youth floorball development, the event also guided the Chinese coaches in providing new training methods.
This camp introduced world standard training methods and further enhanced the development of floorball in China. The Chinese floorball development for youth will continue to improve with the support from the IFF, AOFC (YDC) and the Floorball Committee of China Hockey Association.
