The first ever Africa Floorball Cup will be organised this weekend in Abidjan, Côte d´Ivoire . The Cup is organised by the Cote d´Ivoire Floorball Federation in cooperation with the IFF.

The IFF will also run a development seminar in Cote d´Ivoire before the actual matches start. There are in total five countries participating in the Cup, with women´s and men´s teams. The participating countries are Burkina Faso, Côte d´Ivoire, Mali, Nigeria and Togo.

The cup will be played using the Urban Floorball Concept. Teams will play 4 v 4 plus goalkeepers and each match lasts 30 minutes (2 x 15).

Mr. Veli Halonen, the IFF Operations Manager, who is the IFF representative in Abidjan is feeling enthusiastic about the recent development steps taken in Africa:

– It will definitely be interesting to have the first ever international tournament in Africa. There have been two international matches before when Kenya and Uganda played last year, but a full scale tournament is naturally something else. The development seminar, which will take place a day before the actual tournament is an important continuum for the seminar that we had in Cameroon in September 2016. All in all it looks like floorball development in Africa is going in the right direction and I’m sure that we will hear more from the African national teams in the near future.
