Lielvarde became the winner of men’s group A by defeating FBC Spartak Moscow today. The Latvian side were one step ahead in a really physical combat and secured their victory in the third period by the experienced forward Atis Blinds.

Spartak Moscow-SK Lielvarde 2-7 (1-2, 1-2, 0-3)

The game was really fast and physical already from the start. No subtle technical efforts were seen but instead of that a lot of one-on-one contacts and lot of running with and without the ball. The game was not under anyone’s control for the most part, but the Latvian team arranged better chances for scoring. That is also why they did two goals and the Moscow team scored only once. The goal scorers of the Latvian side were Kaspars Mudelis and Toms Akmenlauks. Moscow’s goal was shot by Nikita Bryn.

In the second period Lielvarde controlled the game for the first ten minutes and also scored twice. First Atis Blinds increased the score to 3-1 and then Sandis Mihailovskis did 4-1. Dmitry Kurach decreased to 3-2 and after ten minutes had been played in the second period, the Russian team started to possess the ball more. They started to play with only two lines and the game looked better from their point of view. However, no more goals were scored in the second period.

Lielvarde secured their win in the third period even though Spartak did their best to decrease the score. The Latvians got space to turnovers and they scored three times in the period by Atis Blinds who scored total four goals today. Toms Akmenlauks and Kaspars Mudelis did points 1+1.
