The first match in the womens’ group A between Saint Petersburg and UHC Weissenfels was quite clear from the start. UHC Weissenfels led the game in their home court and Saint Petersburg tried their best to fight back.

In the first period UHC Weissenfels dominated the game by keeping the ball and also by striking with counter attacks. Saint Petersburg got only a few chances to really build up their game or get to good scoring chances. Magdalena Tauchlitz scored twice and Laura Hönicke once as the German team led in the first intermission 3-0. Sara Patzelt assisted two goals.

The second period was more even, but Weissenfels managed to win it. Liubov Serebriakova decreased the score to 3-1, but after that Laura Hönicke scored her second goal of the game. Serebriakova scored SPB United’s second goal when there was 27:48 on the clock, but before the period ended, Weissenfels had scored twice. Both of the goals were assisted by Magdalena Tauchlitz.

The last 20 minutes didn’t bring anything new to the table. SPB United got some good chances from fast attacks, but in the big picture Weissenfels led the game. Both teams managed to score once.

Saint Peterburgs’ most effective player was Liubov Serebriakova being involved in every goal they made with points 2+1. UHC Weissenfels’ Magdalena Tauchlitz gathered points 2+2 and Sara Patzelt 1+2.
