Australia and Japan both had a good day the first day of the Men´s U19 WFC 2017 AOFC Qualification, having defeated New Zealand and Iran respectively.

New Zealand took on Australia in the opening game of the Men´s U19 WFC 2017 AOFC Qualification.
After a somewhat nervous start the Australians scored twice late in the first period, the second goal was scored shorthanded.
Australia kept the grip in the second period and Tomas Gartner scored both his second and third goal taking Australia to 4-0 before New Zealand scored their first goal of the match. At this point New Zealand was given a golden opportunity to catch up when they got a 5 vs 3 power play for 1:45 but they could not use that advantage. Another power play in the end of the period didn´t result either.

The 3rd period was then controlled by Australia and two late goals set the final result to 6-1 and a good start for the team.

In the second match of the day the home team Japan entered the tournament to play vs Iran.
Iran caught up well in the first period and it took 16 minutes before Japan could score the opening goal behind the hard working Mohammad Nemati.
Japan had a good start of the 2nd period and found the net frequently to a 4-0 lead after 27 minutes. Iran kept the play up well and found more openings for their shots towards the Japanese net, however without scoring. When the period ended team Japan still had 4-0.

Iran managed to raise their level a bit further in the last period and also scored, Mohammadamin Davalou without assist, but in the end team Japan proved to be the stronger team and won the match with 7-1 in front of 329 spectators.
