During the Latvian Floorball Union (LFU) General Assembly, which was held in Riga on May 31st 2016 the new Central Board and President were elected.

Mr. Petersons has been the President of LFU for the last eight years and he was re-elected for the third four-year term. After the election he expressed his gratitude for the trust that the Latvian floorball community has put in him and he also outlined the upcoming challenges:

– The first one is to do all our best regarding the 11th Men’s World Floorball Championships, to be held in Arena Riga in December. Our main engine and main power is our volunteers team with their rich experience from the previous IFF competitions in Latvia, as well as from the WFC “test event”, the Latvian Superfinals 2016 in Arena Riga, with the total attendance of more than 4000 spectators.

The Latvian men´s national team is also up for a challenge:

– The second challenge is for our men’s national team, who need to be ready to compete for one of six spots in the largest multi-sport events for sports not on the Olympic Programme, The World Games in Wroclaw, Poland in July 2017. Floorball is included on the official programme of the World Games and we still remember our first participation in the Games as the demonstration sport in Lahti, Finland, in 1997. And last but not least, we have a historical moment, as we welcome two of our newly elected Central Board members, to represent women’s floorball on our CB for the first time. And that will give extra motivation for the other ten CB members to work even better, Mr. Petersons concludes.

One of the guests at the General Assembly was Mr. Indrikis Putnins, the Executive Manager of Latvia’s Team Sports Association:

– Floorball is very well recognised among team sports in Latvia and the Latvian Floorball Union is one of the most active members of our association. Close and constructive collaboration with the Latvian Floorball Union is a guarantee to lead to good results in our common work to develop the organisation of Latvian team sports in the name of a physically active society. The only wish for the future – choose the proper strategy for development on the way to the Olympics!

Mr. Einars Fogelis, the President of the Latvian Sports Federations Council was also amongst the guest speakers:

– We can be proud of the international success of all the Latvian national floorball teams. So fast development and good results from a new team sport federation in our country is a real confirmation of the excellent teamwork of all floorball players, coaches, referees and managers. The World Floorball Championships 2016 is one more possibility to test our experience and show to other countries, that we are not only among the best floorball teams, but we are also among the best organisers of the largest sporting events.

During the meeting new Central Board was elected. Seven Board members were re-elected and five were elected as new members.
