The best female players in the world will play in the upcoming World Championships starting on the 5th of Decemeber. These are the 7th Women´s World Championships and there are only two players, Hermine Dahlerus and Baiba Jurusa, who have played in all previous WFC´s and are still playing in this tournament. Below you will find a glimpse into the top 5 ranked team´s rosters.


Finland  – is also aiming for the gold with a team that is a mixture of experience and many new players as 12 players have no previous experience from World Championships.

Finland will play in the group B in the same group as one other WFC favourite, Swritzerland.

The most experienced player in the Finnish team is the solidly playing Paula Jouhten, who is at her best in tough matches. Jouhten will play her 5th World Championships.

One of the goal scorers in the team is Eliisa Alanko, currently playing in UHC Dietlikon. Alanko is a hard worker and a sniper that will try to score in every possible situation.

Sweden – will defend their gold in front of the home crowd with a young and talented team.

The most experienced player in the Swedish team is Hermin Dahlerus.  Dahlerus was the first woman to play 100 internationals and she is also close to breaking new records as she is currently second, one goal behind Johanna Ekeroth in the amount of WFC goals and two points behind Ekeroth in the amount of overall points in the Women´s Championships.

Karolina Widar, the captain of the Swedish team who was elected the MVP in the World Championships in 2007 will be a player to look out for also in the upcoming Championships. Her ability to build up the game together with the skill of settling important matches can take Sweden far in the WFC.

 

Dahlerus can break new records in the WFC

 

Switzerland – the Swiss team is a mixture of young and routine players. 11 players have already played in adult Championships and nine are newcomers out of which four players have won the Under 19 World Championships in 2008 in Poland.

The Swiss team came second in the EuroFloorball tour in November loosing with two goals to Sweden, but winning over both Finland and Czech Republic.

The legendary Swiss goalkeeper, Laura Tomatis, will be the last lock in the Swiss goal and another tough player in the Swiss defence is Simone Berner. The captain and leader of the team will play her 6th World Championships.

Latvia – is aiming for the semi-finals from the group A.

Latvias performance will rely much on the defensive play and especially the goalkeeping. Lauma Visnevka from the Swedish elitserien team Endre IF is very important for the team. The most experienced player is the defender Baiba Jurusa, who has played in all previous WFC´s.

 

Czech Republic – the Czech team is hungry to win their first Women´s World Championships medal.

The Czech team is also relying on their experienced goalkeeper. Hana Vánová has played in the goal also in the three previous championships. One of the Czech forwards that brings important experience and toughness to the offense is Ilona Novotná, who will play her 6th WFC.
