The Danish Floorball Federation organised in cooperation with the Floorball club, Valby FC, Floorball presentations during annual IOC Congress, which was organised in Copenhagen.

On Thursday the 1st of October there was 3 versus 3 Floorball played as well as speed shooting for the visitors in the Rådhuspladsen, Copenhagen. There were different sports demonstrated on Thursday and the aim was to present also the sports, which are not yet part of the Olympic program.

On Saturday the 3rd DaFU participated in an IOC youth “Sports Bazaar” in the Bella Centre. Nineteen sports were displayed, offering demonstrations for visitors and the opportunity to learn more and test their skills. The one-day Bazaar served to exhibit just some of the sports included in the three-year “Youth Programme” launched by the NOC of Denmark in 2008.  The programme aims to increase youth participation in sport by encouraging national sports federations to propose alternative formats of their sports which are more attractive and accessible to younger people.

Both the IFF President, Mr. Tomas Eriksson, who participated in the IOC Congress and the President of the Danish Floorball Federation, Mr. Per Stærk Larsen, were very pleased with the promotional events:

“I think Danish Floorball Federation has made an great effort to promote Floorball during the IOC Congress in Copenhagen 2009. Two major Events at the Rådhuspladsen and in Bellacenteret were held, and there you could not avoid to see Floorball in action. A lot of contacts were also made, and some IOC members from many different countries were told a lot about the new team sport – Floorball”, Mr. Per Stærk Larsen stated.

“As a very popular sport amongst children and youth, Floorball has a very good possibility to join the Youth Olympics in the future, maybe already in 2014.” Mr. Tomas Eriksson continued.

During the IOC Congress Rio de Janeiro was elected as the host city for the 2016 Olympics. More information from www.olympic.org
