This year´s Men´s Final serie was extremely tight in Switzerland. SV Wiler-Ersigen, the longtime dominant in the Swiss Men´s Floorball was challenged by Tigers Langnau. Five matches were needed before the Champion was clear, but finally it was SV Wiler-Ersigen who won the title again.
SV Wiler-Ersigen was stronger in the first match, which they won 4-3. The challenger Tigers Langnau was however able to win the second final match on their home field with result 9-5. Tigers Langnau got a very good start in the third match and had the lead 4-1 after the first period. They were able to maintain the lead to the end and won the third match finally 6-4.
In the fourth match Tigers Langnau had the chance to finalize the serie and win the championship on their home field. There were over 2000 spectators in the arena, but it was SV Wiler-Ersigen who managed to handle the pressure better. With two scores by Philipp Fankhauser and Lassi Vänttinen SV Wiler-Ersigen won the match 5-1 and prolonged the final series into five matches.
It was clear that the winner of the fifth match will win the championship. Tigers Langnau started this match better than the fourth one and with two goals by Ales Zalesny Tigers had the lead 2-1 after first period. The second period was even, both teams scored once and it seemed that Tigers Langnau will have the lead also after two periods. This was however not the case as Adrian Zimmerman scored only 14 seconds before the intermission and tied the match to 3-3. In the third period the more experienced team SV Wiler-Ersigen was the only team able to score and with three goals they won the match 6-3 and took home the championship.
This championship victory was the third in a row for SV Wiler-Ersigen and totally the fifth for the club. The victory secured a place for SV Wiler-Ersigen in the EuroFloorball Cup Final round. The EFC Final Round will be played in Denmark in October 2009. Tigers Langnau will also have a chance to qualify to the EFC Final Round from the EFC Qualification for 2nd best teams from Top 4 Nations.
