A Floorball coaching seminar for the Beijing districts responsible PE teachers was organised in Jiu Hua Resort in December 2007 in order to introduce the sport to schools. The seminar was conducted by the IFF and organised by the Beijing Education and Science Research Institute in cooperation with The Nordic Sports Products Co/Exel, which has been strongly involved with the promotion of Floorball in China.

The Beijing Education and Science Research Institute organises seminars twice a year to introduce new sports to PE teachers in the district. During the seminars the PE teachers are evaluating the sport and give their judgements to the Beijing Education and Science Research Institute. The Beijing Education and Science Research Institute will then decide, which new sports will enter the schools as first test sports and then later as official sports.

There were approximately 100 teachers taking part in the two day seminar, which included lectures about the rules and basic technical skills as well as practical training session. The feedback received from both the participants and the organiser, Mr. Sun Wei from the Beijing Education and Science Research Institute and Mr. Sam Xiao from the Nordic Sports Products, was very positive. Also the representative of IFF, John Liljelund, was very pleased after the trip to China.

Floorball development in China

During the seminar there were also discussions held concerning the future development of Floorball in the region. The aim is to have a National Floorball Association established in China in the future. First however the sport needs to be officially acknowledged, which requires that the sport is played in ten provinces for at least three years. At the moment there are approximately 10 Floorball clubs in China and the sport is played in Universities in the Beijing area as a test sport.
