Floorball has reached even more former Yugoslavian countries when the sport now also has gained a footprint in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
In Bosnia, Floorball is currently a part of the activity of different non-governmental organizations and has been dependent on donations and voluntary workers from abroad. During the couple of last years Floorball has however gained approximately 100 recreational Floorball players, mostly children and young people thanks to the activity of the volunteers. Floorball is played in schools in the biggest cities such as Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Tuzla, as well as in Travnik, Jajce, Srebrenik, Sanski Most and Foinica. Schools are also organizing tournaments about four times a year. The last tournament was won by the team from Travnik.
Although Floorball is still a recreational sport bringing together children from different ethnical backgrounds, the aim is now to build up Floorball clubs in Banja Luka and Tuzlaand. This in order for the sport to grow and to receive more financial support and better training facilities from the community.
Th IFF is also supporting the sport in Bosnia by sending Floorball equipment and educational material for development purposes. For more information contact Miika Kurkkio, FIDA International.
