The qualifying teams from AOFC are now decided – Australia, Japan, Singapore and Thailand. These four teams can now start their preparations for December when the World Floorball Championships 2019 will be held in Neuchâtel, Switzerland from 7th – 15th December.
Korea finished in 7th place after defeating Philippines in a very close game. This was the Philippines first IFF event and they improved with every game and will be a strong competitor at this year’s SEA Games. Korea’s experienced players led today and they held on tightly in the last period for the 4-3 win.
The two big games of the day were the qualification matches. Thailand faced Malaysia and the host country spectators were kept on the edge of their seats for the whole match. Malaysia came very close to causing a big upset – a penalty shot hit the post, a shot from the centre late in the game hit the cross-bar – but when the match went to overtime it was one of Thailand’s star forwards who broke away and found the top corner of the net to end the game 2-1 (ot.) Like the Philippines, Malaysia will be in with a big chance for a medal at SEA Games.
In the last match, New Zealand waited until the last period to stage a comeback and began a scoring frenzy between the two teams with six goals (three each) scored in five minutes. Singapore had enough of a lead to keep control and went on to win 10-4.
Today’s first-time scorers were: Yujin Choi (KOR), Sarah Samonte (PHI), Sharmane Ng (SGP), Marie Sundin (NZL).
