Saturday full of emotions, experiences and memorable moments ended with the battle for the eleventh place in the tournament between Slovenia and Austria at the Red Arena. After a thrilling finish, the Slovenians were victorious, as they managed to show an unprecedented turnaround and beat the Austrians in a shootout.
When the score was 6:0 after two periods of the game, the Austrians were expected to steal the eleventh place for themselves. The Slovenian team showed incredible fight. In the third period, they closed the gap to Austrians. The equaliser came less than two minutes before the end when Slovenia’s Gal Sardi made the fans happy. In the overtime, both teams had several chances, but none of them was successful and the game had to be decided by a shootout. A fantastic battle was decided in the eighth series of shootouts by Maj Oman. After the winning goal, the celebrations started and continued for many minutes.
The Slovenians managed to complete the turnaround of the championship, and take eleventh place in the tournament. Austria takes 12th place. Anze Podobnik contributed the most to the Slovenian victory, scoring four points.
