The Women’s World Floorball Championship will take place in Neuchatel, Switzerland from December 7 to 15, 2019. Half a year before the start, the event is finally taking shape and the Swiss women’s national team is getting fit for the home world championship.

Exactly in six months at 12 noon, the playoff for the Women’s World Championship 2019 will start at the Patinoires du Littoral rink in Neuchatel with the match Finland vs. Poland. But project manager Reto Gyger and his team still have lots to do. “We are on schedule. We are currently finalizing the rough planning and are starting the detail planning.” This includes implementing the plans for the fan zone or the additional infrastructure in and around the hall, for example.

Romandie – A Hard Nut to Crack

Regarding the infrastructure, one must always evaluate what is really needed. What will add value to the event? What would be nice, but is not necessary? Questions like these are what the project manager will be dealing with during the coming weeks. There are also language barriers: “Everyone who will be working for the World Championship must take great care to avoid any misunderstandings.” says Reto Gyger, with a smile.

It is the first time that a World Floorball Championship will take place in the Romandie, the French-speaking part of Switzerland. It is a great opportunity for the sport, yet often a hurdle for the organizers: “Sometimes we even have to explain to people what floorball actually is.“ says Reto Gyger. One of the goals of the World Championship is to raise awareness for floorball in the Romandie.
