The Men’s World Floorball Championships in Helsinki, Finland are only 100 days away. The arrangements of the biggest sporting event in Finland in 2021 proceed steadily and the Local Organization Committee aims to have 100 000 spectators at the venues during the nine-day-tournament.
The tournament will take place 3.-11.12.2021 in Helsinki after one year postponement due to the global pandemic.
The two past seasons have been really challenging for the floorball community and finally there is a chance to experience a great sporting event when WFC 2020 starts in December. Hopefully WFC 2020 will lead the way and in 2022 there will be the return of spectators to the stands in all sporting events.
– We all have wished for a very long time to take again part in sporting and cultural events. The city of Helsinki wants to be part of making the WFC 2020 a memorable event with spectators cheering for the athletes. Together we can make sure that events will be safe for spectators attending from Finland as well as from abroad. It is great to have Helsinki as a host city for the world championship tournament, says Paavo Arhinmäki, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Leisure.
– Our goal is that the tournament is be played as planned. We have received hopeful signs as the vaccination coverage increases all the time. The ticket sales has also continued nicely. It seems that the floorball fans are more than ready to return to the stands and hopefully in December we are able to enjoy the amazing atmosphere without major restrictions, says Pekka Ilmivalta, Executive director for Finnish Floorball Federation.
16 teams onboard – Preliminary round offers already many top matches
Ten out the sixteen teams arrive from Europe. In addition, the teams from Japan, Singapore, Australia and Thailand have made their way to the tournament as well as Canada and USA.
– Travel restrictions in different countries are somewhat different and the pandemic situation is constantly changing. During September, teams from all countries will confirm their entry into the WFC. We are confident that everyone will do their best to get into the Men’s World Floorball Championships, says John Liljelund, Secretary General of the International Floorball Federation, IFF.
Already on the Opening Weekend of the WFC offers several top matches for floorball fans. On the opening day, the host country Finland will face Team Denmark. On Saturday Team Finland and Team Sweden will play against each other, and on Sunday, 5th of December, Team Switzerland and Czech Republic will also face each other.
