Before the match, the Czech Republic were big favorites to win. But Poland would prove to be a tough opponent to defeat and the match was decided first in the third period

The match started evenly, but it was the Czech Republic that would win the first period. Michaela Kubeckova made it 1-0 after 11.57, and just 21 seconds later the Czech Republic extended to 2-0.

The second period would continue to be even. But after two goals from Zuzanna Krzywak, the last of which in powerplay, Poland had equalized. However, the Czech Republic would regain the lead when Michaela Mlejnkova made it 3-2.

– It was good play from the whole formation that allowed me to score the goal. We had good pressure throughout the match and I just stood at the right place, says Mlejnkova.

The third period showed that the Czech Republic were a more experienced team as they extended their lead. Three straight goals from the Czechs gave the final result 6-2. Despite the loss, Poland’s MVP and double goal scorer Zuzanna Krzywak was pleased with her team’s effort.

– We played well today, especially in defense. We had some good chances to score, even though we did not succeed every time, I am happy with our performance. Especially with our goalkeeper who was great, says Krzywak.
