It was a even and exciting match that was decided on Thursday afternoon. NFFR played and fought well but it was Germany and Luisa Diesener who got to cheer in the end.

The match started at a high pace where Germany took the lead when Theresa Beppler-Alt scored after 8:50. It was the only goal of the first period.

In the second period, NFFR’s captain Mariia Kitaeva stepped forward and equalized the German lead. Germany had the chance to regain the lead, but NFFR goalkeeper Anna Kolts was quick and agile and made a nice penalty save.

The third period would be a real nail-biter. First, NFFR took the lead but with 15 minutes left of regular time, Winona Jurgens equalized to 2-2.

In overtime, Germany and Luisa Diesener needed only one chance. After a nice pass behind the goal, Diesener made the decisive goal and received the team’s hugs and cheers.

NFFR’s captain, Mariia Kitaeva was understandable sorry that her team didn’t win.

– I’m so sorry that we couldn’t win. But we tried and we should have won.

The results mean that Germany will face Latvia in a placement match for 9th place while the NFFR will face the United States in a battle for 11th place.

– We need the same motivation that we had this and the last game. We need to use our chances so we can score a lot of goal because we got the personal for it.
