Floorball Denmark has sat down with one of the already signed up volunteers for the U19 Men’s WFC in Frederikshavn, for a talk about what makes it great to be a volunteer. Bo Jensen has volunteering experience and he tells us why volunteers are so important at a big event like the U19 WFC, and what joy it gives to be a part of it.
FD: Bo, why have you signed up as a volunteer for the U19 WFC?
Bo: As always I want to help out with events like this. There’s just a really good and special vibe around tournaments of international character. Everything ranging from the intense atmosophere at the timetable, cooperating with the referees to make it a good game, to showing foreign guests Frederikshavn and the Arena Nord. I’ve been helping out in the local club for many years, when my kids once played there and also for the national competitions. But the biggest experience I have to say is the Men’s WFC in Göteborg, many years back. I was completely sold. So now that there’s a big event in my backyard, well the choice wasn’t difficult.
FD: Based on your former volunteering activities, what’s the biggets motivational factor for signing up again?
Bo: The motivation behind it is to be part of making sure everyone has a good experience at the event. From players to the people around the team and all the fans in the arena. To make sure everything runs smoothly, especially on the practical level in cooperation with the hosts, is a good feeling. Furthermore, you can’t neglect and devalue all of the networking you can do on a personal level.
FD: How do you plan on prioritizing and handle being a volunteer at the U19 WFC in contect to your daily life?
Bo: I feel that if I have to spend some vacation days on it, that’s the natural choice. The days will at the same time be spent with my family, who of course will participate as fans at this event.
We thank Bo for his time and insight on what makes the noble deed of volunteering so good.
