In a loud IFU Arena, Italy and Thailand began their championships. The yellow-colored Thailand took home the victory, both on the court and in the stands. A strong first period lead Thailand to a controlled 5-2 victory.

Both teams started the match in a nervous way. But after Thailand and Nelly Johansson started the scoring after seven minutes, Thailand took command over the game. Johansson would also score her and the match’s second goal before Kamonwan Phumma scored Thailand’s and the period’s last goal when she scored 0-3.

– We started very well and were the stronger team throughout the match. We created many chances and really fought for each other, says Nelly Johansson.

In the second period, Thailand continued to have a grip on the match and extended their lead. After a nice pass from behind the goal, Lalita Kuiraphanew made it 0-4. Italy would also score in the second period. A quick shot by Livia Dossegger made it 1-4 and the Italian bench erupted in euphoria.

In the third period, Italy cut the lead down to two when the team made it 2-4 after five minutes. After the goal, Thailand controlled the third period and extended their lead to 2-5, which became the last goal of the game.

The Italien goalscorer Livia Dossegger says that it’s a great honor to play in the tournament.

– We are happy to be here and will continue to do everything to succeed in the rest of the tournament.
