On a chilly Wednesday morning, the first placement match in the championship was to be played. Italy and Thailand settled for 15th and 16th place.

The first period of the match reflected a game that was even. Both teams attacked and defended well. It was Thailand who would take the lead with 1-0 after two minutes through captain Nina Suppa. Italy would reduce before Thailand regained the lead, but Italy was not finished but they reduced again. However, the Thais would go on to win the first period 3-2.

The second period started slowly, and not many chances were created. The first goal of the period came after 10 minutes when Italy equalized again. However, the match would slip out of the hands of the Italians, they started to look tired in the last half and conceded four goals.

Italy got a taste start in the third period and the pick-up was well underway. But it was instead Thailand and above all Nina Suppa who closed the match. With two more goals by Nina, four on the day, the match was over with the result 5-10.

– It was sad to concede so many goals in the previous matches so it really gave everything we had today and I think it seemed on the field, said Italy’s MVP Deborah Wagner after the match.

One of Thailand’s goal scorers, Pichavee Yoolai, was pleased with the final whistle.

– It is a very good match, very impressive for us. We take the ball together and work as a team.

MVP Italy: Deborah Wagner

MVP Thailand: Nina Suppa
