Team Finland continued their journey in the WFC 2021 by defeating team Slovakia on Sunday evening. Finland now has two wins in two games ahead of Tuesdays match against Sweden.

It took almost 16 minutes before the crowd in the IFU Arena got to witness a goal in the game between Slovakia and Finland. However, shortly after the first goal Slovakia managed to equalize by Paulina Hudakova. But with just 37 seconds left of the first period Finlands Veera Kauppi once again put Finland in the lead.

The second period started just like the first one ended, with a goal by Veera Kappa. After only 40 seconds the Finnish star made no misstakes and gave Finland a 3-1 lead. 3-1 then became 5-1 after two periods and the final result was 6-2 to team Finland.

Team Finlands goalkeeper, Krista Nieminen, was satisfied after the game with her teams performance.

– It was a tough game and a little difficult start from us. But then we had control of the ball during all the game. It was maybe a bit tougher than we expected but winning is always fun and that’s important, said Krista Nieminen.

Even though team Slovakia lost the players saw the positive things they did in tonight’s game and team captain Katarina Klapitova was already looking forward to tomorrows game against Germany.

– We knew from the beginning that it was going to be a really tough game for us, but we just tried to play in the best possible way we can. And we know that the tournament really starts tomorrow for us. But I’m positively surprised and kinda happy even though we lost, said Katarina Klapitova.

MVP for team Slovakia was Tamara Dobosova. MVP for team Finland was Daniela Westerlund.
