Team Denmark beat team Germany in the WFC 2021 playoffs to advance to the quarterfinals, but it took a penalty shootout to separate the teams in IFU Arena.

The playoff game between team Denmark and team Germany became a real thriller. Germany, who hadn’t scored a goal so far in the WFC 2021, opened the scoring after six minutes of play when Kisa Reck hit the ball past the danish goalkeeper.

However, in the second period team Denmark pushed on and got an equalizing goal after the referees reviewed the goal during a couple of suspense minutes. Team Germany quickly retook the lead again though when Katharina Meyer found the net with a beautiful drag shot.

2-1 then became 4-2 with six minutes to go and team Denmark had to press on hard to force the game to overtime. Germanys goalkeeper, Noora Holle, again and again stepped up and made some amazing saves that left the crowd in IFU Arena speechless. But in the end team Denmark managed to get two balls past the German keeper and the game went to overtime. And later penalties.

– I think it was a game with high tempo. Very good game and I think we had the ball a lot and created many chances, but their goalkeeper was very good, said Laura de Fries after the game.

In the penalty shootout team Denmark clinched the win and advanced to the quarter finals in the WFC 2021.

– It was a really important game for us against Denmark. We really wanted to win the game and I think we played well for the most part of the game. It was really bad to get two goals past us in the last minutes of the game. We are really sad now that we lost, said team Germanys Kisa Reck after the game.
