In the team’s second championship match, Switzerland took their first victory when Latvia was defeated 13-0. A strong result before the last group game where the team meets the Czech Republic.

Switzerland took the lead when the team’s scoring queen Corin Ruttimann scored on a penaltyshot just after two minutes. After goals from the two Sirius-players, Michelle Wiki and Chiara Gredig, the team managed to make it 4-0 before the first period was over.

– We pressed Latvia high and won the ball. I was in the right place and got a really good pass from Julia Suter and just needed to put the stick to the ground, says Gredig.

In the second period, Switzerland continued to control the match, and despite a sacrificial defensive play from Latvia, Switzerland was able to win the period with 3-0.

Nor in the third period would Latvia score on the talented Lara Heini in the Swiss goal. Instead, the offensive continued to produce, mainly through Flurina Marti who scored a hattrick in the third period.

Latvia’s MVP, Samanta Berzina was happy with the team’s effort despite the loss.

– Today’s match was much better than the previous one. We listened carefully to our coaches and we were not afraid today, says Berzina.
