Sweden did very well on Sunday when they beat Germany 20-0. Sweden took an early grip off the match when Ellen Backstedt started the goalscoring after only 30 seconds.
Sweden quickly extended the lead to 4-0 before the team suffered a penalty. In the following powerplay, Germany created several good chances but the posts and Sweden’s goalkeeper Frida Görtz stood in the way, and instead Sweden could score two goals in boxplay. After several nice goals, Sweden was able to go to the break with a lead that was 11 against 0.
Sweden’s best player, Ellen Rasmussen, was very modest when se described her effort.
– The whole formation had a good game today and the girls made it easy for me to score, Rasmussen says.
The second period began like the first, Sweden and Emelie Wibron made it 12-0 after just one minute. In total, Sweden scored seven goals in the second period, which gave the result 18-0.
In the third period, Sweden suffered an injury when Sofia Joelsson ran into an opponent head first. The Swede fell to the ground and had to be helped off the pitch. Once the game restarted, Sweden managed to score twice, which gave the final result 20-0.
Despite the loss, forward Luisa Diesener was pleased with the team’s effort.
– It was a tough challenge to face Sweden but we played okey after the tough start, says Diesener.
