Latvia and Germany followed each other in terms of results for two periods. In the third period, Simona Grapena and Latvia pulled away from Germany and won the match 7-5.
– We wanted to make some pressure at Latvia. We had a lot of chances that we didn’t make, says Germany’s team captain Randi Kleerbaum.
Latvia would take the lead in the match, but before the first period was over, Germany had equalized to 1-1.
In the second period, Latvia pushed forward, but the German goalkeeper Noora Holle once again played well. When the signal for the second period came, the result was 3-3, despite a large Latvian dominance.
But the goals would come for the Latvian side. The team won the third period 4-2, which meant a nice ninth place for Latvia and four-goal shooter Simona Grapena.
– I would have preferred to be fifth place. But ninth is also good and today we showed that we can fight, says Grapena.
