A tight game between Denmark and Estonia
First period was even and after twenty minutes score board remained 0-0.
Second period went quite like the first one. Fair fighting and teams scored evenly. Two seconds before the second intermission Denmark equalized game to 2-2 situation.
In the third period Estonia finished with a better percentage. Final result 3-5.
“It was a tough and a really good game. Morning games are always a little different, but it is the same for both teams. We are eagerly looking forward to the next game”, comments #8 Patrik Kareliusson, TOP1-scorer in the tournament so far.

Germany gets in the game only in the third period, Slovakia was stronger
Germany faced fourth defeat of the tournament after losing to Slovakia 3-7.
First two periods Slovakia had the control of the game. After 40 minutes game was 1-4 to Slovakia. Something happened in the Germany’s locker room during the second intermission. Germany got in to the game and narrowed situation to 3-5. Germany played almost four minutes without goalkeeper but it didn’t pan out. Slovakia made two goals to empty net. Final result 3-7.

World Championships debutantes Philippines beat USA
Philippines had a great start to the game. #9 Lucas Werelius made two goals and assisted one in the first five minutes. Philippines had two 2 minutes penalties and USA started the chase. USA made two goals on power play. First period 4-3.
Second period was tough. Philippines took again 4 minutes of penalties but this time managed to keep USA from scoring. Score board to the second intermission 6-4.
Third period was Philippines show. Despite of USA’s fighting the final result stretched to 10-5.
“I’ve had tough time with my shots so it was really nice to get my first goal now”, Lucas Werelius commented relieved after the game.

3 seconds and game is on!
Latvia started strongly and #22 Peteris Trekse scored 3 seconds after the game started. After 2.25 minutes Latvia took 3-0 lead but after 11 seconds Canada got in to the game and narrowed situation to 1-3. Canada had the opportunity to narrow the situation after being given the the opportunity to take a penalty shot but #89 Jānis Salcevičs saves the goal. After the first period Latvia leads 6-1. Second period was calmer. Canada took 2 minute penalty and Latvia scored 3 goals.
3 period was full of action. Canada got two chances for penalty shots but again Jānis Salcevičs saved both of goals. Canada fought nicely and scored 2 times but Latvia scored whenever there was a chance and the final result on the board was 16-3 for Latvia.

Thailand beat Singapore in an Asian match-up
Thailand faced Singapore in a placement game for places 13-16th on arena 2 on Tuesday. Thailand opened the game strong with 4 goals in the first 17 minutes of the game. Singapore answered in the late 1st and early 2nd periods with two goals of their own to close the gap to two. Thailand added another two on the board before #34 Haris Abdul from Singapore took a five minute penalty for kneeing a Thailand player mid court. This proved to be decisive because Thailand was able to capitalize with three power play goals during the five minute powerplay to make the score 9-2. Both teams were able to score a few more times to make the final score 11-6.
Efficient powerplay made the difference for thailand
The game was pretty much decided with the three powerplay goals during the second period. Thailand’s most efficient players were the captain, #19 Pawat Thaidit (3+3), #17 Santipong Sukkasem (3+0) and #92 Pheeraphong Khambanlue (3+0). Thailand had only single digit scorers with #6 Chee Yong Lee receiving the best player award for Singapore. Thailand will play against Philippines and Singapore against USA for the following placement games.

– We were good enough with the ball in order to create enough scoring chances to score enough goals to win this game. This win was important for us because we want to get to the World Games.

Norway closed the game after two close periods with Poland
Norway faced a gritty Poland team from the group C in a playoff round 1 evening match on Arena 1. Poland had a better record from the tournament before the game but Norway had had good performances against some big countries in a tougher group under their belt. The game was very close for the first two periods. There were a lot of good plays on offense for both teams and good goaltending as well. The score was tied at 3-3 after two periods and an exciting third period was about to start.
Norway took over in the third period
Norway started controlling the ball more early in the third. It didn’t take long before #2 Arvid Vibring Lindqvist scored a beautiful one-timer after a great passing play between almost every Norwegian player on the court. Norway quickly added two more and one a bit later, and the game was decided. Poland played good though and fought to the very end.
A goal scorer, #16 Lukasz Widurski said after the game:
– I think we played a very good game but unfortunately weren’t able to win in the end. What can I say.
– I think we were the better team today but we didn’t just take advantage of our opportunities in the first two periods. I think tiredness after three tough games before was also a factor today. Good thing we have a rest day now before playing Sweden in the quarter final, said Norway captain #3 Daniel Gidske.
Poland will face Denmark in a placement game for places 9-12th on Wednesday.
