The official song of the Women’s World Floorball Championships 2019 in Neuchâtel is the work of local artist David Charles, better known as MC Roger. This citizen of Neuchâtel was inspired by the song «Djadja» by Aya Nakamura.
The number 1 French hit «Djadja» by Aya Nakamura is also very well known in the Romandie, the French-speaking region of Switzerland. Reason enough for David Charles to use the song for the World Floorball Championships. The 38-year old citizen of Neuchâtel is well known for his parodies in Western Switzerland. This is the first time he is imitating a woman. The artist chuckles: «Frankly, it is a Women’s World Championships here. » The song chose him, not the other way around, he says. «I heard it everywhere I went, on the radio, on TV, on the Internet. In my head, the ‘Oh djadja’ very quickly became ‘Oh tshak tshak’ and in my mind’s eye, I already saw the choreography with the floorball sticks.»
WFC Song to set a great mood in Neuchâtel
The entire parody developed very quickly from the initial idea. The text tells of how he catches the floorball virus and how he can hardly wait until the World Championships gets started. This thrill of anticipation is meant to be passed on to everyone who hears the song. Primarily people from the Romandie will be made aware of the major event that will be taking place in their area.
David Charles worked together with the women floorballers of UHC Yverdon for the shots in the video clips. MC Roger dreams on: «I can already now imagine how the players will be dancing to my song at the WFC.» But he remains realistic: «You should never expect anything from music. You just have to perform it with lots of love and lots of passion, and the rest happens all by itself.»
David Charles will perform the WFC song live at the Patinoires du Littoral rink at the opening ceremony on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 14:45 hrs., prior to Switzerland’s match against Germany.
